The Train of Salt and Sugar

Join us at CCA for a new Portuguese language film festival, LusoFilm. Inspired by José Saramago’s A Jangada de Pedra, where he imagines Iberia breaking away from the rest of Europe, the festival’s main themes will be abandonment and isolation in the face of Brexit alongside a celebration of the depth and richness of Lusophone culture.

Selected films include Vítor Goncalve’s A Vida Invisível, Hugo Martin’s Upside Down, Marta Matheus’ Barbs, Wastelands and Rafael Todeschini’s Eva Maria. The festival aims to bring people together, through cinema, to contrast the vibrancy of Lusophone culture with the profound pessimism of the contemporary moment. We will be inviting filmmakers to attend the festival and screenings will be followed by Q&A discussions open to the public.
