MAWfest #1 with Phil Minton, Maggie Nicols & Sarah Kenchington

MAW present a day-festival celebrating free improvisation headlined by iconic avant-garde vocal improvisers Phil Minton (founder of multiple Feral Choirs across the world) and Maggie Nicols (a key figure in feminist music and founding member of Feminist Improvising Group/FIG) are performing together in Scotland for the first time since the 1980s.
Other acts include instrument-inventor Sarah Kenchington with her hurdy-gurdy musical contraption, Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, experimental violist Ailbhe nic Oireachtaigh, Australian sound artist Alexandra Spence and the debut performance of Glasgow's premier improvising group MAW in collaboration with Butoh dancer Paul Michael Henry and poet Juana Adcock. There will be a free open workshop at midday in CCA theatre for people who are interested in improvisation as a fun vocal technique.
