Mujeres - Women in Film 2023

CinemaAttic return with their most awaited programme: MUJERES | Women in Film, a special programme bringing together their favourite colourful, radical, visionary films made by women across the world in the last year.

In 2023, CinemaAttic put a special focus on the politics of everyday labor and the power of women’s collective action. Women working together in Galicia, Costa Rica, Colombia or the Basque Country behind and in front of the camera leading revolutions in rural areas of Colombia, Pakistan or Spain. Little and big gestures that build a kaleidoscopic collective body of emotional, moral, feminine, affective support, dignity and working conscience. Guerrilla fighters, Galician shellfish workers, Pakistani women talking openly about sexual pleasure and reclaiming the public space or a women’s choir standing against the greed of capitalism and pollution.

The selection this years include critically-acclaimed films awarded and seen in Cannes, San Sebastian, Sarajevo, Clermont-Ferrand, Vila do Conde, Visions du Reel, Ji.hlava or DocsLisboa film festivals, shortfilms nominated to the recent Goya Awards (Cuerdas by Estibaliz Urresola) as well as hidden gems that we recover for the enjoyment of Scottish audiences.

On top of CinemaAttic’s all-year-round commitment to highlighting the most exciting female filmmakers in the sector, they dedicate a special month to celebrate their favourite films made by women in the last year, so here it is - MUJERES!
