Conradh na Gaeilge Glaschú presents, with the cooperation of Imagine Media Productions: Féile na Gaeilge Glaschú 2019: OÍCHE SCANNÁN / Film Night
AN TÍR ÚD THOIR (That Land to the East)
This screening celebrates 10 years since the release of Conradh na Gaeilge Glaschú’s 2009 documentary which tells the stories and experiences, in their own words, of 10 Irish-speaking emigrants who came from Donegal to Glasgow in the 1940’s, 50’s & 60’s. (30 min. Irish w/ English subtitles)
SAOL ÚR IN ALBAIN (New Life in Scotland)
Imagine Media Productions’ 'Saol Úr In Albain’ is a celebration of what was once Donegal’s biggest export - it’s people. It tells of the shared experiences of the last generation of Donegal women to travel to Glasgow in search of work.
Bridget McGee, Nan Smullen, Nancy Gallagher, Mary McGinley, Maighréad Bn Úi Ghallchóir, Rose McGeady, Margaret Coyle, Maire Rua Gallagher, Annie Greene and Margaret O’Malley take us on the nostalgic journey of their lives. In the industrialised era of the 1940’s & 50’s these teenage girls from Donegal travelled ‘over by’ to Glasgow to find work in domestic service, on Glasgow’s trams or buses and in factories. Collectively they retell of a bygone era in Donegal history and it’s second home of Glasgow. (60 min. Irish w/ English subtitles)
