On Disagreement
They are seated one in front of each other: it’s a TV show. He conducts, she is a guest. Both their voices are amongst the most influential for dealing with the photographic image and how we perceive through, on and around the image.
The eloquence of the conversation between John Berger and Susan Sontag from 1983: to Tell a Story, was the starting point for planning a workshop on the concept of disagreement. We were curious to know how ways of telling and listening to stories could be a starting point for reconsidering how we make up our own.
According to Zygmunt Bauman our attempt to understand “the other is the birthplace for all cultural ability to create”. Therefore dialogue can not take place between like-minded people but by necessity has to take place under condition of disagreement and difference. This workshop aims at presenting the participant’s personal experiences of ‘disagreement’ when exposing work to others or publically. While sharing the stories we will explore how the process of disagreement can be collectively transformed and experienced.
The restitution of the work made during the workshop will be at Talk and See Photography ‘Hold Everything Dear’ during the evening of the 13th of March (19:00 - 21:00). For Invited Only
