Only Girls

A series of five short films that explore the topics of girls, nature, Greek mythology, smoke and revenge.

This programme associatively connects the positions of five young filmmakers, all born in the 80s, and their use of cinematic language. It centres around a female main protagonist, who somehow is in an ambivalent relation to her environment: exposed to or hidden by billowing smoke; wrestling naked on open field; reading rhymes in the Olympic Stadium; re-staging Andy Warhol; and the Odyssey in female version. With a minimum of action and speed, the films seem to meditate on an underlying humour, that‘s entertaining as well as serious.

The programme has been put together by Daniela Zahlner (born 1986, Austria), who is studying Fine Arts and Film/Theory in Vienna and Glasgow. She is member of the artist-run film-lab filmkoop wien.
