Open Jar Collective Soil Memory Madrid

Open Jar Collective
Extending their investigations into soil, Open Jar Collective will be contributing to the project Memoria del Suelo (Soil Memory) through a residency in Madrid in June.
Invited by arts collective INLAND (an arts collective dedicated to agricultural, social and cultural production), in association with Matadero (an arts centre in Madrid), we will be part of a project to activate the proposed site of a community garden next to Matadero.
During the residency we will be focusing on the soil ecosystem around the local river. We will involve people in collecting plant specimens and mapping the movement of sediments along the watercourse. We'll host a series of open studio days for printing, paper making and soil experiments. This will inform a debate around what action can emerge from gathering this knowledge.
The talk will share the outcomes of our residency and how it has informed Soil City, our ongoing project to reimagine the city as if soil matters.
