Brazilian curator Paulo Miyada presents the program for the Entropic School currently established in the Tomie Ohtake Institute, in São Paulo, which was inspired by a combined narrative of art and psychology and offers a space of uncertainty, chaos and critical views for contemporary artists and researchers.
In Brazil, some of the most influential initiatives in the field of art education were held in experimental contexts, applying improvised and innovative methodologies without relying on structural changes in the institutional formal education spaces. This lecture will present a brief genealogy of such initiatives, including the Modern Artists Club promoted by Flávio de Carvalho, the convergence between art and psychiatry promoted by Dr. Osório Cesar and Dr. Nise da Silveira, the school of the Museum of Modern Art during the 1950s in Rio de Janeiro, the Armando Álvares Penteado Foundation (São Paulo) and Parque Lage (Rio de Janeiro) during the 1980s.
