Plan de Vida - Learning from Latin America Workshop and talk

Sat 13 August 2016

Plana de Vida - Learning from Latin America

Please note this event will take place in Garnethill Multicultural Centre, 21 Rose St, G3 6RE

The talk will present how the Misak, indigenous people whose territory is located in Colombia, have found alternative ways of living and put in place different systems from the dominant neo-liberal economic and societal system. As with many indigenous peoples in Latin America, the Misak lost large parts of their territory during colonial rule. In the 1970s, they started a process of land reclamation and were eventually successful in gaining formal land rights recognition. Since then, the Misak have developed their Life Plan (Plan De Vida) as a tool for self-determined development to ensure their gains would be preserved for future generations.

As part of Botanic Concrete, the workshop will explore how the Misak's Plan De Vida might inspire new ways of thinking and being in the world.
