Poet Annie Higgen with bakery47: bread & memory / poetry & potluck
Mon 2 November 2015

bakery47
This event will take place at bakery47, 76 Victoria Road, Glasgow.
This will be the first in a series of evenings hosted by bakery47 to embrace and explore the practice of commensality.
Commensality, the practice of people coming together to share the breaking of bread and the enjoyment of mealtime around a table is a human tradition many people feel has become absent in contemporary culture. For many the dinner table used to offer a central place for sharing, socialising and supporting, while it has now become a place of remembered rather than everyday family union and ritual. bakery47 and Annie Higgen would like to invite you to a collaborative evening of shared supper and memories at which commensality will be explored though the mediums of food and poetry. Guests will be asked to bring with them a contribution to a pot-luck style meal where the food they bring will have some personal nostalgic or sentimental significance. During the evening, while enjoying food and words around the table, we invite guests to share their memories and experiences associated with the foods on offer. The meal will be punctuated with poetry readings by Calum Rodger, Katy Hastie, Nick-e Melville and Annie Higgen which will explore notions of memory and remembering.
Guests are asked to arrive with their dish / dinner contribution at 7:30pm; BYOB. Tickets cost £5 and are available from bakery47 - booking essential.
