Our Story Scotland
What are archives? Why should I tell my story? My story isn’t very interesting, who would want to hear it?
If you identify as LGBTQI+ and have experienced the UK’s asylum system/displacement/migration, we want to hear from you. Archives are for everyone, including YOU!
Come along to our interactive workshop on World Refugee Day. Meet OurStory Scotland, who support LGBTQI+ people in Scotland to share their stories. Learn all about oral history and how you can share your story. Take part in oral history interviews and be part of Scotland’s vibrant LGBT history!
This half-day event will take place as part of Refugee Festival Scotland 2024, in partnership with Scottish Refugee Council, Scottish Council on Archives and OurStory Scotland, and with support from Common Ground.
The Scottish Council on Archives is Scotland’s leading advocacy and development organisation for archive and records management services in Scotland and we want to empower people to take ownership of their own stories and be part of a sustainable archive of the future.
Queer lives are too often hidden in the archives, and for the past 20 years the LGBTQ+ community archive OurStory Scotland have rescued the evidence of our lives, ensuring our stories are recognised as an integral part of a diverse Scotland. Preserving this history will ensure a legacy for generations to come, keeping our stories alive.
Free event, all welcome! Travel expenses will be provided for those who need.
