An Introduction to Building the Internet for Women
RailsGirls is a global community formed to encourage and empower women to build the web. Founded in Helsinki in 2010, RailsGirls chapters and events have since been created and held worldwide, providing the tools, language, and opportunities for thousands of women to join the internet playground.
Scotland’s inaugural RailsGirls chapter, RailsGirls Glasgow, invites women and girls of all ages and backgrounds with an interest in learning to build the web to attend their free 12-hour event for absolute beginners. Through fun and informal workshops facilitated by local web developers and Rails experts, participants will get hands-on experience in basic coding, sketching, and prototyping using Ruby on Rails, an open source web application framework that runs on the Ruby programming language. No experience is necessary – all you need is a laptop and a good dose of enthusiasm!
Sound good so far? Fancy empowering yourself, demystifying building the internet, learning to innovate, getting access to the wonderful world of programming, advancing your career, and changing the face of web development as we know it? Then join in!
To apply, email RailsGirlsGlasgow@gmail.com before Fri 30 August to tell us whether you have a previous background in coding and why you would be a good participant for RailsGirls.
Places are limited so please do not be disheartened if you aren’t accepted this time: it certainly won't be the last chance you'll get!
