Raucous Rossini Concerto

Sun 10 July 2016

Mozart

Raucous Rossini are an acclaimed young opera company who provide an opportunity for emerging singers and musicians to engage in Italian opera. Based in Glasgow, and largely consisting of musicians trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, this is Raucous Rossini's third opera tour.

The centre piece to Raucous Rossini's concert will be the Mozart Clarinet Concerto, played by Ross Montgomery. Written at the peak of Mozart's compositional abilities and just weeks before his death, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) composed the Clarinet Concerto in A major. He wrote it specifically for his friend and fellow freemason, Anton Stadler. It remains one of the most popular pieces of classical music in the repertoire. Another gem in this year's programme is the The Serenade for Strings, and is the earliest of Elgar's works to become well known, and to become part of the standard repertoire. The Serenade remained one of Elgar’s favorite works, and he included it in the last of his recordings of his own music, made on August 29, 1933 with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The Serenade as we now know it was completed in May 1892. Alongside these two central pieces Raucous Rossini will be performing the overture for their summer opera, Il Signor Bruschino, and the Variations for Oboe by Rossini played by Clara Garcia.
