Johan Ten Hoeve, a second generation Dutch clock maker spends eighteen months of his studies at West Dean College, Sussex making his masterwork, a replica of the 1676 Thomas Tompion year-going clock for the Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Rebecca Birch, whilst in residence at West Dean College spends an extended period of time watching the process. The resulting film, The Year Going, is a compression of this close observation.
