Five women form a watch party to follow a popular South Korean dog-groomer online. They discover they are connected to each other in mysterious ways…

In their extraordinary first feature film, Mika Rottenberg and Mahyad Tousi create a strangely credible solar-punk world. Set in a near future, REMOTE follows Unoaku, an expat architect living and working in an apartment in Kuala Lumpur, and four other women living on their own in Iran, Argentina, Puerto Rico, and South Africa.

While watching the daily performances of the South Korean dog-groomer, the five women discover they are connected through mysterious portals hidden in their homes. Embarking on a quest for answers, they use the portals to bridge the distance between them, uncovering a phenomenon with universe-altering consequences.

Filmed in 2021 during the COVID pandemic with a cast of multinational actors and performers including Okwui Okpokwasili and Joony Kim, REMOTE explores what it means to live in a ‘hyperconnected’ future populated by isolated individuals who find new ways to maintain human relationships.

Commissioned by Art Angel, Louisiana Museum, and Moderna Museet, in association with Hauser & Wirth.
