Rising Up Together

Join us for a jam-packed day of creative drop-in sessions, campaigning and community stalls organised by Refugee Festival Scotland to celebrate World Refugee Day and exploring this year’s festival theme, RISE!

Facilitated by artists, community groups and third sector organisations, the programme of activities is suitable for all ages and invites you to: express creatively what ‘Rising’ means, imagine a fairer welcome for refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland, and celebrate welcome in community.

No need to book, just turn up!

Morning: 10am - 1pm

Come along to paint, draw, print a communal bunting, write short stories, make a collage, read books from a unique pop-up library, help create a collective textile artwork, perform rap songs and more! You can also bring your own clothes to print onto if you’d like.

Contributors include: Print Clan, The MILK Peer Writers’ Blog, Woodlands Anti-racist Community Library, Music Broth, Collective Resonance, Silvia Cirronis and Daniel Mahon.

Afternoon: 2.30pm - 4.45pm

With campaigning, manifesto writing and zine making stalls, as well as opportunities to participate in discussions, discover projects and resources, learn about culturally valued food, plan seeds and other activities.

Contributors include: Hussein Mitha, Malini Chakrabarty, Scottish Refugee Council, Migrant Voice, MIN Voices, Govan Community Project, Community Info Source and Positive Action in Housing.

Organised by Refugee Festival Scotland, with support from Common Ground.
