‘As sharp as roses’ is a workshop that considers alternative routes and other worlds through collaborative writing.
As a group we will embark on a piece of writing through a number of different prompts, textual interventions, contradictions and experiments to develop something of shared authorship that shifts with every interaction. We will deconstruct and rebuild meaning and narratives to create something non-linear and unruly, asking questions about legibility and coherence in a process of queer world building.
This workshop is the second in a series of workshops hosted by Rosie’s Disobedient Press as part of their residency with CCA Annex. It forms part of a larger ongoing work ‘The last stop is Ultima’ - a project which explores the potentials of collaborative practises in art and writing and ways in which marginalised narratives are constructed and disseminated. The title is a reference to Ultima, the Planet of Paradise which features in the Create Your Own Adventure novel UFO 54-40, in this novel the planet – though much searched for is unreachable through any of the options in the narrative; it is the non-existent ideal.
The title of this workshop is taken from ‘Plan(e)t = Cluster’, a poem by Jay Gao commissioned as part of this project by Rosie’s Disobedient Press for CCA Annex Residency.
Things to note:
The most important thing to know about the workshop is that no previous experience of writing is essential. There will be no judgment on form or content. This is a small workshop where participants will be encouraged to work together on developing a collaborative piece of writing. There will be a combination of working with others and individually. Participants are not required to read anything aloud if they do not feel comfortable to do so and no preparation is required for the workshop.
