The Village Storytelling Centre's Emerging Voices programme comes to a close with a performance of stories all based around Witches and Wells. Join us for an atmospheric storytelling journey into a world of folklore, firesides and feminine icons.
A little bit about our Emerging Storytellers:
Oren Shoesmith is an artist and emergent storyteller living in Glasgow, originally from Cornwall. He works in an entangled way between clay, poetry, performance and film. Oren’s focus is on telling stories of unruly lands and bodies within traditional folktale. Working with an idea of the sacred dissenter, he is interested in what stories which centre the mad, sick and queer can teach us about collective liberation.
Currently an Emerging Voice in Storytelling with the Village Storytelling Centre, Glasgow, Oren is interested in exploring story as an embodied tool for expanding our ways of seeing and relating. His recent work deep dives into the mytho-poetics of holy wells and springs as places of change, transformation and taboo.
Irene Russell was born and brought up in Priesthill, Pollok in the 60’s. She had a career in Education spanning forty years, primarily as a teacher of science. When she retired she became a member of ‘This Woman’s Voice ‘ and ‘Pollok Voices’ at the Village. She was inspired to take part in the Citizen Story project in 2024 and has been sharing stories at community events. She is interested in how applied storytelling can support people’s mental health and wellbeing.
