Scottish Writers' Centre Andy Jackson & John Menaghan 'In Process' Masterclass

Andy Jackson takes poetic inspiration from the most unlikely sources; the inner secrets of dentistry, legends of music hall, conspiracy theories, dance crazes, cult movies and public conveniences. Quirky and engaging, his poetry is accessible but rooted in strong image and narrative. Debut collection The Assassination Museum (Red Squirrel, 2010) was described by Ian McMillan as ‘alive with possibility and excitement’. He is editor of Split Screen, an anthology of poems inspired by film & TV (Red Squirrel, 2012) and its forthcoming sequel Double Bill. With WN Herbert he co-edited Whaleback City, a historical anthology of Dundee poems (Dundee University Press, 2013). He is a previous winner of the Baker Prize and the National Galleries of Scotland competition.

A prize-winning poet and playwright, John Menaghan has published four books with Salmon Poetry (Ireland): All the Money in the World (1999), She Alone (2006), What Vanishes (2009), and Here and Gone (2014). Kirkus Reviews called All the Money in the World 'an auspicious beginning', while The Hudson Review called She Alone 'one of the best books of 2006.' Books Ireland described What Vanishes as an 'evocative' and 'experimental' collection with a jazz-like form and flow. Four of his short plays have received productions in Los Angeles, and one in Omaha. Menaghan teaches Literature and Creative writing at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he also serves as Director of both the Irish Studies and Summer in Ireland programs.
