Glasgow is a city of many cultures and Scotland a nation of many strands of race and religion. Join us for an evening of recitals of poetry and short stories from members of all the diverse ethnic communities of Scotland hosted by award-winning author Chiew-Siah Tei, including a reading by Leela Soma, and see and hear multiculturalism in action. Listening to the stories of those of different backgrounds to our own is a foundation stone for a diverse and coherent society of enlightened individuals, and reading one’s own work is a vital experience for writers as a means to gain feedback and develop their own voice.
Chiew-Siah Tei holds a PhD in Creative Writing and Film Studies from the University of Glasgow. Her work ranges from fiction to drama, and her first book, Little Hut of Leaping Fishes (Picador, 2008), was listed for Man Asian Literary Prize and Best Scottish Fiction Prize, and won Malaysia’s Readers’ Choice Award.
