Scottish Writers' Centre In Process Masterclass with Douglas Thompson

Douglas Thompson
A former Chair of the SWC and one Glasgow's most original exponents of dark surreal fiction. Thompson's seventh book, the historical novel The Brahan Seer premièred at last year's Inverness Book Festival and has been described by Margaret Elphinstone as "a finely worked novel.... highly credible and a very powerful story." This autumn sees the publication of Thompson's ninth book: a major collection of his surreal short stories entitled The Sleep Corporation, from London publisher The Exaggerated Press. With several acclaimed science fiction novels also under his belt ("Thompson has certainly shown he is a name to watch" - Interzone magazine) and a growing reputation for poetry and more recently even visual art. The evening promises to be a diverse and unorthodox exploration of the art of writing from the perspective of someone implacably opposed to the sameness and complacency of major commercial publishers.
