Scottish Writers' Centre Plain Speaking: Real People and Realistic Dialogue with Andi Denny

Tue 28 March 2017

An event for theatre makers from any discipline. Please join us for this talk by playwright, performer, and producer, Andi Denny, founder of the new company The Other Guys Theatre Scotland. Denny has sought to find new ways to write realism. Reflecting, pondering, and sharing, Denny discusses his approach to writing for stage, and how when the sounds of realistic dialogue continue to shift, he creates characters whose voices are honest, complex, and true to their generation. Denny also addresses the benefits and early challenges of producing his own work, tapping into untrained talent, and avoiding the echo chamber.

Andi Denny, MLitt is the Creative Director and founder of The Other Guys Theatre Scotland. A playwright, director, and performer, Andi is a graduate of the University of Hull and the University of Glasgow. After many years working with talented amateur performers in Glasgow, Andi founded The Other Guys in 2016, frustrated by the lack of quality opportunities for overlooked or untrained theatre-makers. His play, FIFTEEN:ELEVEN is the company’s first project, and will premiere in Glasgow in Spring 2017.
