Group poetry improvisation is a method of producing poetry that involves spontaneous, collaborative, and oral composition. Poets work in groups on a series of games, scenarios, and exercises that encourage them to leave their desks behind, come together, and see where their voices lead them. Improvisation can be a powerful way of building confidence in one’s voice, tapping one’s creativity, developing ideas, and generating material for performance or audio recording. It involves creating a supportive environment where writers are able to lower their inhibitions, follow their creative instincts, and open up to others.

Robin Vaughan-Williams is a poet, workshop facilitator, and literature producer, with experience in literature development, festivals, and radio production. His poetry has been published by Happenstance Press, Candlestick press, and various publications and websites, and he enjoys performing my work and collaborating with artists and musicians. He has run creative writing workshops for a number of organisations, such as Sheffield Young Writers, Off the Shelf Festival, Aphasia Nottingham, and Apples and Snakes, and specialise in group devising, poetry improvisation, and writing towards performance. He has run three live literature series, produced collaborative performance events weaving together the work of poets and musicians in public spaces, connected with writers around the world in his Skype Me! events, worked on two festivals, and organised numerous poetry readings and talks.
