Scottish Writers' Centre Three Poets - Three Languages of Scotland
Tue 30 August 2016
Sheila Templeton, Maggie Rabatski and A.C. Clarke read and discuss their new pamphlet, Owersettin (Tapsalteerie Press 2016).
Three years ago, three poets got together to translate and write versions of each other's poems. Maggie Rabatski is a native Gaelic speaker, Sheila Templeton grew up speaking the Doric Scots of the North-east, and A C Clarke hails from London. They each chose two poems by each of the other two poets, and responded, sometimes translating fairly closely, sometimes responding in a version inspired by the theme and form of the original poem. What started out as an untried venture developed into a conversation to which each poet brought her own voice and manner and from which each poet drew fresh inspiration.
All three poets will share and discuss their work and their creative process in Owersettin.
