Second Site: Reading Group
Tue 6 August 2019
Ashanti Harris Doll Thomas Queen of the dvfy
This reading group explores themes in artist Ashanti Harris's exhibition Second Site, currently running from 13 July - 18 August at Civic Room, Glasgow.
Second Site re-imagines the female, African and Caribbean diasporic history which haunts the Mercantile era of architecture in Scotland. Working with a de-colonial methodology and a desire to make invisible histories visible, Ashanti Harris explores the historical presence and hidden legacies of Guyanese women in Scotland in the 18th and 19th century.
The reading group will be led by Sabrina Henry (Assistant Curator, CCA) and followed by a conversation between Sabrina and Ashanti. Texts will be shared at the event and will be read together: no need to prepare in advance.
Second Site is the second exhibition featured in ‘Of Lovely Tyrants and Invisible Women’, a programme curated by Civic Room from February 2019 until February 2020.
