This mature and introspective debut from Quebec-based filmmaker Karina Garcia Casanova captures her brother Juan’s distressing relapse into depression and paranoia. Having recently returned to Canada from his native Mexico, Juan’s condition allows Karina to explore the connections between her family’s rootlessness and battles with mental illness, using cinema as a means to reconstruct and rediscover themselves.

Followed by a post-screening discussion convened by SMHAFF Film Curator Richard Warden with Alan Douglas (Service Development Manager, Bipolar Scotland), Theresa Moerman Ib (Filmmaker and Visual Artist) and Wafa Shaheen (Interim Head of Refugee Services, Scottish Refugee Council).
