Intersexion
Is it a boy? Is it a girl? What if it’s neither?
This award-winning doc explores the world of intersex people - those born with any one of a large number of variations that make their gender ambiguous according to traditional binary ideals. Presenter Mani Bruce Mitchell, one of New Zealand’s first out intersex people, and director Grant Lahood locate interviewees willing to share their experiences. They discuss living in a society with a restricted view of gender which, at best, has made them all but invisible and, at worst, has subjected many to damaging ‘corrective’ surgery.
Followed by a discussion with activist organisation Intersex UK.
