CANCELLED - SUPERLUX Workshop with Margaret Salmon

35mm Workshop 4iip
Following the fire on Friday night, CCA will be closed all day Saturday 16 June, Sunday 17 June and Monday 18 June. Our thoughts are with our friends and neighbours at Glasgow School of Art and O2 ABC, and the incredible fire service.
Artist Margaret Salmon, who works primarily on 16mm and 35mm film, will lead an introductory demonstration and discussion around the 35mm film camera. Taking an intuitive and often improvised approach to the camera, Salmon trains her eye on an intimate cast of family, friends and local subjects. Her films are a chronicle of the everyday, of the emotive connections between people, and of their relationship to the worlds they inhabit. Salmon’s most recent works, Mm (2017) and Eglantine (2016) were both shot on 35mm and the medium continues to play a strong role in her practice moving forward.
An experienced cinematographer, Salmon has also shot for a number of artists including Aurélien Froment, Ursula Mayer and Luke Fowler and worked on music videos for the musician, Matthew Herbert. Beginning with a visual presentation to illustrate different approaches and methods, Salmon will go on to teach a practical introduction to the basics of 35mm camera technique, working with an Arri 435, a set of Cooke prime lenses, 400 ft. magazines, battery belt and accessories. The session will cover loading 400 ft. magazines, assembling the camera body, lens and battery, as well as basic operating methods for observational filmmaking on 35mm.
Please note that this workshop will not involve any practical filming exercises with the 35mm camera. Participants don’t need to bring anything, just be prepared to take some notes on the day.
This workshop is now fully booked.
