Truth and taboo collide in this intimate visit with a phone sex operator. Listen closely: she may change your views on sex forever.
A slice-of-life comedy/drama, Phone Whore won the award for Best Female Solo show at the 2010 San Francisco Fringe Festival, Pick of the Fringe for Drama at the 2011 Victoria Fringe Festival and was an official selection of the 2012 Zoofest Festival in Montréal. The play invites audiences in for an unflinching look at taboo, fantasy, and the place of “deviant” desires in society today.
Playwright and performer Cameryn Moore draws extensively on her work experiences at a no-taboo service to flesh out both the absurdities and difficult truths that pervade the world of phone sex. She is an activist, educator, and yes, currently a working phone sex operator. Cameryn has done phone work for over four years, writing and rehearsing between calls and even taking calls while on tour (she will not be taking calls while in Edinburgh; international phone charges are too high.)
Phone Whore and Cameryn’s 2013 world tour are fiscally sponsored projects of the International Sex Workers Foundation for Arts, Culture, and Education, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization. Cameryn’s tour stops in the UK are co-produced by the Sex Workers Open University, a community building and advocacy group based in Glasgow.
