TalkSeePhotography’s February event welcomes the 4 members of collective Not the Finished Article (NFA): Nicky Bird, Alicia Bruce, Caroline Douglas and Sylwia Kowalczyk.
The members of NFA are established female artists based in Scotland. They work with four distinctive ways of practice that incorporate photography, moving image, the found photograph and the museum collection.
NFA’s remit as a collective is to create a space to discuss and support work in progress by developing and debating questions generated by their own work. The collective at work is not easily satisfied but openly generous, inquisitive and curious. In this climate the collective’s distinctive differences can inspire and anything, from their own half-baked ideas to other contemporary practitioners photography or even a good meal, can make the foundation for a productive conversation.
Alongside their individual practices, NFA are currently working on a collaborative group project. This new piece will culminate in a co-authored body of work in Edinburgh on International Women’s Day in 2015.
TalkSeePhotography is a monthly event with presentations by international and national photography practitioners, curators, and writers. The event is designed to facilitate a scene for critical dialogues within and across subject matters. The unsaid and repetitions both engender practice, therefore the aim is that no question should remain unasked however difficult it may be to articulate.
NFA’s carefully deliberated ethos makes up a perfect opportunity to make such a conversation happen at TSP.
