TalkSeePhotography June

Mon 13 June 2016

TalkSeePhotography

For TSPs June event we are delighted to announce that photographer Margaret Mitchell and historian Rachel Hewitt (GCU) will be presenting their work around the exhibition Beyond Epilepsy. The session will be chaired by Dr Hanna Tweed from Glasgow University.

Mitchell is showing her work on epilepsy and will use this as a springboard to speak about her practice. She will discuss (printed) media representation, stigma and myth within a broader context of photographic representation of disability, weaving between experiential and objective observations. This will be framed within a narrative of responsibility in representation in photographic practice and how her work in disability arts has informed her practice in general.

Rachel Hewitt will provide a broad range reading of the history of representation of Epilepsy. Contextualising the ideas behind the exhibition she will speak about the general intentions with the show and how it has come together.

After a discussion Dr Tweed will open up to questions and concerns from the audience. We are very happy to have the opportunity to run an event alongside a hanging current exhibition as this provides an exceptional opportunity to do research into the subject matter of the event.

This is the last event before our summer break. We will be back in September but check Facebook and web page for possible popup events.
