June's event will see photographer and filmmaker Chris Leslie and architect Lesley Palmer discuss implications of urban planning raised in long term project The Glasgow Renaissance.

Chris Leslie is a BAFTA Scotland award-winning documentary photographer and filmmaker from Glasgow. He has worked with different socially engaged projects since 1996 when he, as a volunteer, set up a photography project in a Sarajevo orphanage and held workshops there for four consecutive summers. Today he works as a freelance photographer and filmmaker for different NGOs and other clients across Eastern Europe, Africa, and Asia. The Glasgow Renaissance, which Leslie has worked on for 7 years, is a narrative about hope, memory, loss and community set against the backdrop of Glaswegian regeneration in some of the areas that house the cities most marginalised communities.

Lesley Palmer is an architect and founder of INCH Architecture + Design – a social enterprise design and research practice based in Glasgow. In her work Palmer is motivated by a political commitment which guides her to use a responsive approach when working with people and place. Whether working with housing associations or third sector organisations she maintains a focus on the resident communities or users of the planned buildings. She is currently leading on the design of a new-build horticultural training & community centre in Broomhill, Greenock and the publication of three design guides for remodelling housing for the over-65 population.

Combined, the two speakers presentation will deliver a well researched and grounded discussion about urbicide, the destruction of cities as a political statement, violation of private space and human life, and how a socially engaged practice can operate in these circumstances.
