Rampant consumerism, hedonism and wanton women; this is what society in Leipzig was anxious about when Bach wrote his Coffee Cantata (BWV 211). This immersive performance intertwines the piece in its entirety with contemporary music theatre, composed by James Oldham from Waste Paper Opera, Birmingham, and written and directed by Edinburgh-based librettist Michael Wood. After the resounding success of Acis & Galatea at Mono, conductor John Butt and Music of the Spheres join forces once again, bringing you a historically informed performance of baroque music and the best that Britain’s young musicians, singers and artists have to offer.
Join us for an hour of exquisite music, excellent coffee, fantastic food and the sweetest lamentations on the joys of coffee drinking since 1732.
Cast: Sam Carl, Nora Holden, Kenneth Reid. Free admission, donations suggested.
