The Pennsylvania trio stay true to their roots with an old-time, honest sound, rich in tradition yet fully in the present. With their rich vocal harmonies, tight acoustic arrangements and heart-wrenching songs, the band went down a storm on their UK debut at Celtic Connections last year.
The Stray Birds are rightly lauded for the sheer quality of their musicianship and close harmonies. They dig into roots music but seamlessly add a contemporary flavour with songs that reflect their friendship.
The Stray Birds album of the same name is a cracker and in the anticipated release of a new one this year, the band released the Echo Sessions EP in January, a five-track tribute to their favourite songwriters such as Townes Van Zandt and Nanci Griffith.
Maya de Vitry on vocals, guitar, fiddle and banjo, Oliver Craven on vocals, guitar and fiddle and Charles Muench on vocal bass and banjo are a subtle and stunning joy to behold.
