The Italian Project: Gnocchi Making Workshop
Thu 26 November 2015

Gnocchi
This meeting aims to provide an opportunity to discuss the value of food in different cultures. Italian cuisine is one of the most famous and the most varied in the world. The practice of cooking has become a kind of art, and the reason for this lies in the social meaning that it carries.
The "kitchen" (which in Italian means both the place to cook and the place to develop cooking practice) has acquired a sentimental value. Cooking means to look after, but also sharing an eating pleasure and a moment of our lives with others. Cooking and eating together often represent a moment of exchange for ideas, of sharing skills, of dialogue and of meeting people.
This is the aim of this workshop: the encounter and coming together through food and the traditions associated with it, as well as a reflection on the change in eating habits and the meaning of cooking and eating within families.
We chose the gnocchi because they are a traditional dish, deeply rooted in the kitchens of all Italian regions. There are many variations of gnocchi, all diversified in unique recipes from region to region. The quintessential dish of Italian grandmothers, they help recall ideas of love and care through food.
