UK Jewish Film Festival - Raise the Roof

A revelatory documentary that challenges age-old convictions about Polish-Jewish relations and the Jewish relationship with visual arts. US artists Rick and Laura Brown set out to reconstruct Gwozdziec, a remarkable 18th century synagogue in Poland, for the new POLIN museum. Despite impossible pressures, the timber-framed roof and intricate mural designs of the synagogue are slowly unearthed. Joined by an international team of experts and volunteers, the Browns find buried beneath the structure's beautiful artistic richness, a history lost to the world.
