UNFIX Festival: ReBirth! The Doing Group - Rain is Liquid Sunshine
Sun 18 December 2016
The Doing Group
Rain Is Liquid Sunshine uses found materials and evocative images to question where we are at and where we might be going posited from the remnants we are left with. Through the lens of ecological interconnectivity, we trace both Weather cycles and Urban cycles of construction and destruction to challenge capitalist notions of linear progress. We find and leave trails amongst piles of rubble trying to chase wind and water through the city. In dialogue with industrial waste ground as a site of stunted progress, we map out and re-root displacement. Going backwards is going forwards in a different direction. This destabilises any notions of progress. Over and over again the performers find themselves back in the same place wondering what futures we can imagine once the idea of progress has been drained away?

The Doing Group is an international collaborative performance group currently located in an imagined midpoint between Glasgow (⅔) and Helsinki (⅓). We are concerned with the process of ‘doing’ which in turn produces new realities. Our practice is one of constructive and open questioning. Performance is our means for inquiry
As The Doing Group, we presented Rain is Liquid Sunshine as an outdoor performance at the Pollokshields Playhouse as part of the Southside Fringe in May 2016. Having been awarded the Alasdair Cameron Scholarship, we are currently developing a new performance under the title Elsewheres for 2017.
