Video Letters Double Bill

AN IMAGE TO FOLLOW (36 min – 2025) by Tatia Shé & Anthea Kennedy

AN IMAGE TO FOLLOW
is a video correspondence between two film-makers, taking the form of an exquisite corpse. One film-maker responds to a shot made by the other. The shots relate to each other in different ways: through theme, colour, sound or atmosphere. One film-maker is based in the South of France, the other in London – the differing quality of light in these two places contributes to the dialogue between shots, adding to the mysterious and surprising nature of the work. The filmmakers write: ‘We kept everything faithful to the original timeline, without rearranging the shots. The last image was sent in May 2023. During these 3 years of exchange, besides personal happenings, two marking events took place: The Covid lockdown and the war in Ukraine.’

SEE YOU FRIDAY, ROBINSON (96 min - 2022) by Mitra Farahani

In SEE YOU FRIDAY, ROBINSON Mitra Farahani brings together veterans Jean-Luc Godard and Ebrahim Golestan (both Inclinations regulars) for a 30-week video correspondence between lake Geneva and Sussex. Lucía Salas writes: ‘Godard and Golestan both play their characters well, creating a comedy of artistry and old age, each creating parody of his own: one plays the lord and the other plays the tramp. The images are as hilarious as they are intimate, as Farahani records Golestan, while Fabrice Aragno follows Godard. All four filmmakers act and react. The correspondence is rich, full of self-narrations and enigmas that end up creating a relationship. What are portraits if not the artificial accounts of their own ties?’

About the filmmakers:

Tatia Shé was born in Soviet Georgia and spent many years living and working in England. She has made numerous short films on 16mm and video, has enjoyed collaborating with a wide range of filmmakers and artists. Currently based in France she also works in painting and sculpture.
