VSF17 Badlands: Untold Stories from Central India
We know the exotic, colourful and spiritual India - a land of rivers, festivals, gods, dances and lush green fields. But what about the rest?
Gauri Raje went on a journey to her ancestors' region, and found badlands; both in her father's and mother's lineage. Lands of warriors, dacoits and outcasts, parched ravines and black volcanic mountain ranges, of writers, bards and storytellers. Set in these arid landscapes, her stories will come from outlying sections of society in Western and Central India where there is thirst, but also courage, wit, humour and music!
A storytelling accompanied by sitaar, this piece is mainly in English but also uses Gujarati, Marathi and Urdu to give a resonance to the region within which the stories are set.
