A full day exploring one of the festival’s sub-themes, More Than Words, building on our work in making storytelling accessible to people excluded by traditional oral artforms. How can Storytelling be more accessible to diverse audiences? With workshops and discussions from Deaf Theatre Artist Katrina Fisher, and key note speech from Robert Softly Gale.

11am-12noon (Clubroom): “A Sense of Place” performance by Sense Scotland. Free but ticketed. 15 minute slots. Please book tickets here
11am-12.30pm (Cinema): Discussion
11am-12.30pm (Theatre): Workshop with Deaf Theatre Artist Katrina Fisher. A practical look at working with D/deaf groups.
1pm-2pm (Clubroom): “A Sense of Place” performance by Sense Scotland. FREE but ticketed. 15 minute slots. Please book tickets here
1.30pm-3pm (Cinema): Katrina Fisher, Deaf Theatre Artist, and Jennifer Bates, Deaf and Hearing Ensemble, give insights into their work and chair a discussion about working with D/deaf participants to create innovative pieces of storytelling performance.
1.30pm-3pm (Theatre): Workshop
3.15pm-4pm (Theatre): “Making Performances” – discussion panel on the making of The Village Storytelling Centre’s pieces for the festival. Chaired by Executive Director of The Village, Emma Collins with guests Jon Reid from Sense Scotland, Daniel Serridge from The Village and project participants.
Two of the sessions will be lead by Deaf Theatre Artist Katrina Fisher, Actor Mehwish Bhoja and other Deaf participants from performance 'Talking Hands'. An interpreter will be present for hearing participants. A BSL trailer for the symposium can be found here.
