The Bombay Sample Book, an industrial catalogue of Turkey red dye, now in the archive of the National Museums Scotland, records some of the many designs that were printed onto this signature red fabric.
Designers from India and Scotland (Laura Spring / Charlotte Linton / Lokesh Ghai / Emlyn Firth / People Tree / Gabriella Marcella) were invited to explore the Bombay Sample Book, and respond aesthetically, and with hindsight, to the fabrics, their colours, patterns and motifs.
These samples have been developed by the designers, in conjunction with small-scale producers in India, into a range of new products being exhibited at India Street Bazaar in Tramway this summer. The project has been curated by Katy West. Welcome Home are showcasing the designs and work that went into these products in their shop window and they will also be available to purchase in store.
