Film Installation at CCA

Youth Film Researchers

CCA is seeking two enthusiastic and motivated university students for the role of Youth Film Researchers. This placement offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of a Young People Cinema Programme. You will develop hands-on research, audience engagement and assist in delivering pilot events. You will focus on gathering research into what children, young people, and their families in Glasgow want in a cinema experience. Cinema is used in a broad term, and can mean anything from experimental moving image screenings to animation workshops.

This placement offers students the chance to shape CCA’s understanding of young audiences, influence future programming, and gain practical, professional experience in a dynamic cultural organisation. By embedding student-led research into the development of our cinema strand, we can ensure that the voices and interests of young people are central to our work, creating meaningful, inclusive, and engaging cultural opportunities for Glasgow’s next generation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research local youth cinema initiatives to identify gaps for young people.

  • Organise and deliver audience research which could include surveys, interviews, focus groups etc.

  • Assist the Schools and Young People Coordinator to plan, deliver and evaluate 1-2 small pilot events.

  • Produce a clear and actionable report summarising findings and recommendations for future programming.

Learning and Development

  • Mentoring from the Schools and Young People Coordinator.

  • Shadow and collaborate with marketing, technical, and programming teams.

  • Training provided in safeguarding, budgeting, risk assessments and event delivery.

  • Participation in staff meetings to gain an understanding of organisational planning and decision-making processes.

  • Development of transferable skills in research, communication and evaluation.

We understand that this is a student placement, so rather than prior experience, we ask applicants to demonstrate curiosity, enthusiasm, and a keen interest in learning about film, programming, and/or young people's opportunities.

Person Specification

  • Interest in film, arts engagement and/or community research

  • Interested in equal opportunities for young people

  • Willingness to learn and develop skills

  • Enthusiasm for championing inclusive and accessible practices

  • Strong organisational and communication skills

  • Willingness to collaborate with others.

Key Information

  • You must be a full-time university student

  • You do not need to be studying a ‘creative’ subject

  • You can be studying at any university, but you must be able to commit to working in the CCA venue for at least one day per week.

  • We will prioritise applications from marginalised groups, including disabled people, people from the Global Majority, working-class individuals, reflecting our commitment to equity and inclusion.

Commitment

You must be able to commit 12 hours per week to the placement. We are flexible about how these hours are split within your week. However, we expect you to work at least one day from the CCA office. You are expected to be present when events are taking place.
