GIOfest XIV concludes its film programme with Cath Longbottom's film weaving concert and rehearsal footage around an extensive interview with veteran free pianist Howard Riley as he reflects on his career, evolution and ethos. Featuring insights from bassist Barry Guy and drummer Lucas Niggli, it includes gig footage from Riley’s last ever collaboration with Keith Tippett at the Steinway Spirio Two-Piano Festival at London’s PizzaExpress Soho.
I always wanted to play, and I always thought, well if it’s at all possible, this would be my life’s work.
