Pint and Politics: countering ‘common sense’ economic arguments in the pub

Sun 12 February 2017

Pint and Politics

Campaigners often win the arguments on fairness and social justice, but can we explain where the money will come from? Or why free trade isn’t free? Or why regulation isn’t just red tape?

Our actor-in-residence will play a swing voter who reads the mainstream press and we’ll roleplay a pub conversation on the economy.
How do we counter the ‘common sense’ economic arguments and how do we avoid boring people stiff?

This is a really fun session, but it's also deadly serious. Unless we can be persuasive and win arguments, we’ll struggle to build a movement for lasting change.

With Carl Kennedy, Rachel Broadbent, Nick Arnold and Jamie Driscoll from Talk Socialism and Nadia Idle from War on Want.
This War on Want & Talk Socialism workshop is taking place at the Neoliberalism v Democracy Conference along with dozens of other discussions, workshops and training sessions on building alternatives.
